Coach Henson Announces Retirement

Coach Danny Henson has informed the district of his intention to retire in January of next year. On behalf of Bridgeport ISD I want to express our gratitude and appreciation for his 24 years of dedicated service to our district. The District’s athletic programs have achieved unprecedented successes under his guidance, and our district and community have benefited tremendously from the leadership he has provided during his tenure in Bridgeport ISD.

This year the Bridgeport Bulls won their 150th football game under his leadership as the head coach. His career victory total is more than four times the number of victories achieved by any other Bridgeport Bulls head coach. During his tenure all of the district’s athletic programs have achieved high levels of success, under his leadership the district has added girls’ softball and volleyball, boys’ cross country, and girls’ and boys’ soccer and power lifting.

After consulting with our board it has been decided that while Coach Henson will continue to be an employee of the District through January of next year, it is in the best interest of the district to have the new Athletic Director in place for the entire 2017-2018 school year. We will begin the search for Athletic Director as soon as possible.

Again, on behalf of Bridgeport ISD I want to thank Coach Henson for his many invaluable contributions to our district over the last 24 years.

Eddie Bland, Ed.D.
