Volunteer in Bridgeport ISD
Communities in Schools North Texas believes that ALL children need and deserve a one-to-one relationship with a caring adult. Join a child's community of support by volunteering with Communities in Schools North Texas!
Mentors
Statistically our most impactful volunteer role, Individual Mentors develop a one-on-one relationship with a student through supervised weekly meetings. Individual Mentors act as positive role models and safe places simply showing up weekly to chat, play games, assist with homework, and/or work on crafts with their matched student.
Reading Buddies
After 3rd grade, students begin reading to learn, so reading on grade level at this age is critical. However, a 2019 study showed that 39% of Texas 4th graders were behind in reading. Reading Buddies help to address this by providing students with the opportunity to practice their reading skills and comprehension 2-4 times per month alongside a caring and supportive adult.
Academic Coaches
Many students need a little more time to explore what they're learning and a little help from an understanding adult to fully comprehend their coursework. Academic Coaches provide this support weekly or bi-weekly by assisting students with homework, diving deeper into concepts, and encouraging students on the path toward their academic goals.
Event Volunteers
Occasionally, Bridgeport ISD needs additional support for special events, such as Career Night or Reading Night, and volunteers will be recruited based on these specific event needs.
