    1. Mentors: Statistically our most impactful volunteer role, Individual Mentors develop a one-on-one relationship with a student through supervised weekly meetings. Individual Mentors act as positive role models and safe places simply showing up weekly to chat, play games, assist with homework, and/or work on crafts with their matched student.

    2. Reading Buddies: After 3rd grade, students begin reading to learn, so reading on grade level at this age is critical. However, a 2019 study showed that 39% of Texas 4th graders were behind in reading. Reading Buddies help to address this by providing students with the opportunity to practice their reading skills and comprehension 2-4 times per month alongside a caring and supportive adult.

    3. Academic Coaches: Many students need a little more time to explore what they're learning and a little help from an understanding adult to fully comprehend their coursework. Academic Coaches provide this support weekly or bi-weekly by assisting students with homework, diving deeper into concepts, and encouraging students on the path toward their academic goals.

    4. Event Volunteers: Occasionally, Bridgeport ISD needs additional support for special events, such as Career Night or Reading Night, and volunteers will be recruited based on these specific event needs.
