Facility Planning Committee Makes Recommendations to School Board
At the Jan. 13 board meeting, a group of 55 community members who served on a Strategic Planning committee during the fall, recommended that the Board of Trustees call a School Bond Election for May 3, 2025. This recommendation comes after six meetings during October, November, December, and January where the committee reviewed past bond packages, BISD facility needs and visited with architects and construction firms for cost estimates.
At Monday’s meeting, Committee Co-Chairs Randy McComis and Alison Jones outlined a recommendation that included a bond package for $211,600,000 million for a new high school, capital projects and school bus replacement. See details of the recommendation below:
New High School: $183,100,000
- CTE Facilities: allows the district to expand Career and Technical Education courses such as Agriculture, Automotive, Welding and the possibility of adding CTE programs the district currently does not have
- Auditorium: for district and community use, to seat 600
- Softball/Baseball Fields
- Tennis Courts
- Would be built on a 73 acre piece of property that the district owns next to Weatherford College
Capital Projects: $26,000,000
- Flooring Upgrades
- Roofing System Upgrades
- Interior Finishes Upgrades
- HVAC Upgrades
School Bus Replacement: $2,500,000
- 18 School Buses to be purchased over the next 10 years
- Five SUVs for student/staff transportation
