Becoming a professional school bus driver is a noble endeavor. We accept school bus driver applications throughout the year. We emphasize workplace ownership, inclusion and excellence and are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best talent, who have diverse experiences, perspectives and backgrounds.

Possessing a Commercial Driver’s License with a P & S endorsement is required. If you do not have one while applying, we perform all the training in-house and can help you transition from your C license to a commercial. A positive driving record is a must, as we transport Bridgeport ISD's most precious cargo. Starting pay is $17.41/hour without experience. We follow a pay scale that ranges from $17.41 - $24.05 depending on experience.

  1. Observe the same conduct as in the classroom.
  2. Cooperate with the driver. They are the authorities and are professionally trained.
  3. Remain seated in a safe manner at all times while the bus is in motion. Seatbelts are required to be worn, if applicable.
  4. Refrain from making excessive noise such as loud talking, screaming, whistling, etc.
  5. Your bus driver is authorized to assign seats.
  6. Do not behave in any manner that may jeopardize the safe operation of the bus.
  7. Be courteous: Do not use unacceptable language, gestures, or actions.
  8. Do not open bus windows without permission. Keep your arms, head, and/or other parts of the body inside the bus.

  11. Do not eat, drink, or chew gum on the bus.
  12. Do not be destructive to bus equipment inside or outside of the bus.
  13. Do not carry harmful or dangerous articles (weapons, etc.)
  14. Keep the bus aisles clear. This includes your feet, bags, etc.
  15. Do not possess tobacco/e-cigarettes/alcohol or any form of illegal drugs aboard a bus.
  16. Be 5 minutes early to your bus stop to allow for traffic issues.

Response to Violating the Rule:

  • 1st incident – Call parents/guardian.
  • 2nd incident – Call parents/guardian. Suspended off the bus for 5 days.
  • 3rd incident – Call parents/guardian. Suspended off the bus for 10 days.
  • 4th incident – Call parents/guardian.  Suspended off the bus for the remainder of the school year.

Due to the severity of any one incident, we reserve the right to skip to another response level.

Please be aware that wearing a seat belt on a bus that is equipped with seatbelts is not only school policy but also state law. Any student that chooses not to wear a seatbelt will be suspended following the 2nd write-up for that offense. Our top priority is your child's safety. Just like riding in a passenger car, school seat belts save lives.
