Bridgeport Intermediate School’s Hispanic Heritage Month teacher spotlight is Lesley Curiel. She was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Since she was a little girl, she enjoyed drawing her childhood was filled with art classes. 

Curiel studied at ITESO (Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente) where she majored in Business Administration and minored in Marketing. During her time at ITESO, Curiel started to help out at a local school. “I was helping a child with her work, and when she understood the concepts, I experienced a satisfaction that I'd never felt before; she knew something because of me. I felt overjoyed with the ability of being helpful in a way I haven’t before,” said Curiel. 

This is Curiel’s 13th year at Bridgeport Independent School District. She is currently teaching 3rd grade at BIS. Curiel said that she came from a big city so she thought it was going to be difficult to get used to the lifestyle of a little town, but she loves it. “I love the community and I love my students,” Curiel said. 

Curiel says that she is proud of being part of a culture where family is the most important thing. “What makes my culture unique is the mix of two completely different ethnicities; the Spanish and the Mexican. I think it is really admirable how the small towns keep many ancient traditions alive.”

Bridgeport Independent School District appreciates everything that Lesley Curiel has done for our school and community. We are excited to see all the other ways she will thrive.
