Board of Trustees Approve 2023-24 Tax Rate
At the School Board meeting on Monday, Aug. 28, the Bridgeport ISD School Board voted to approve the tax rate for the 2023-24 fiscal year. The trustees adopted a combined tax rate of $1.06117 per $100 valuation, which is the same tax rate approved for the 2022-23 school year, with no increase for local taxpayers. Since the 2018-19 school year, the Bridgeport ISD tax rate has continued to decrease, totaling a 19-cent overall decrease for taxpayers in the last five years.
Each year, the Bridgeport ISD School Board is tasked with setting the property tax rate for the upcoming school year. Bridgeport ISD’s adopted tax rate of $1.06 represents a 19-cent decrease in the BISD tax rate over the last five years, due to House Bill 3, the 2019 law that limits school district revenue growth.
This year Texas voters will have the opportunity to consider a November general election ballot measure that increases the Homestead Exemption from $40,000 to $100,000, providing tax relief to those who apply for the exemption for their primary residence.
